Preparation Steps

  • Combine nuts, sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl and set aside.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare the baking dish with melted butter.
  • Layer half of the phyllo dough with melted butter in the baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the nut mixture over the phyllo layers.
  • Add the remaining phyllo layers, brushing each with melted butter.
  • Cut the layered dough into a circular wreath shape.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Prepare honey syrup by simmering over medium heat until reduced.
  • Warm milk and sugar in a saucepan.
  • Whisk egg yolks, cornstarch, and vanilla, then combine with warm milk.
  • Cook the custard mixture until thickened over medium heat.
  • Drizzle warm honey syrup over baked baklava and let soak for 20 minutes.
