Ingredients

Cabbage Component

  • 1-2 head green cabbage Cut into 1-inch (2.5 cm) thick steaks

Beef Patty Component

  • 450 g ground beef
  • 15 ml Dijon mustard
  • 15 g parsley
  • 5 g minced garlic
  • 3 g sea salt or to taste
  • 1 g black pepper or to taste
  • 1 g red pepper flakes optional

Topping Component

  • 60 ml tomato sauce or ketchup Choose according to flavor preference
  • 60 g shredded cheese Use mozzarella or other cheese as desired

Oil Component

  • 15 ml avocado oil For brushing the cabbage steaks

Instructions

Preparation of Cabbage

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Slice the cabbage into 1-inch (2.5 cm) thick steaks and arrange them on the sheet. Brush each with avocado oil and sprinkle with a bit of sea salt and black pepper.

Preparation of Patties

  • In a bowl, mix together ground beef, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, parsley, red pepper flakes, sea salt, and black pepper. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties.

Assembly and Baking

  • Remove cabbage steaks from the oven. Spoon tomato sauce or ketchup onto each slice. Place a beef patty on top. Return to the oven and bake for 10–12 minutes.

Adding Cheese

  • In the last 2–3 minutes of baking, sprinkle shredded mozzarella on each patty. Bake until cheese melts and bubbles.

Serving the Dish

  • Remove from oven and serve warm. Garnish with extra parsley if desired.

Notes

Cabbage burgers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months. Prepare patties in advance for quicker assembly.
