Ingredients

Casserole

  • 1 head cabbage

Filling

  • 450 g ground turkey
  • 8 slices turkey bacon
  • 200 g rice
  • 480 ml tomato sauce
  • 150 g diced tomatoes
  • 5 g garlic powder
  • 5 g onion powder
  • 10 g Italian seasoning
  • 2.5 g salt or to taste
  • 1.25 g black pepper or to taste

Topping

  • 200 g shredded cheese optional

Instructions

Preparation

  • Cook the turkey bacon in a skillet over medium heat until browned and crisp. Let it cool slightly and chop it into small pieces.
  • Remove the outer leaves and core from the cabbage, then roughly chop or separate the cabbage into manageable pieces.

Filling Assembly

  • Combine the ground turkey, rice, chopped turkey bacon, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper in a large mixing bowl.

Assembly

  • Arrange a layer of cabbage across the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • Spoon part of the turkey and rice filling evenly over the cabbage.
  • Continue alternating cabbage and filling until all of the ingredients have been added to the slow cooker.

Cooking

  • Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours or HIGH for 3 to 4 hours.

Finishing

  • Check that the cabbage and rice are tender and that the ground turkey has cooked completely. Gently stir the casserole to distribute evenly.
  • Add optional shredded cheese, cover briefly until melted, and serve the casserole warm.
