Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, then add the cod fillets. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and opaque.
In the same skillet, add the halved cherry tomatoes and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened.
Stir in minced garlic, dried oregano, and optional red pepper flakes. Cook for an additional 2 minutes.
Return cod fillets to the skillet, spoon sauce over them, and heat everything together for 1 minute.
Remove from heat, sprinkle fresh basil on top, and squeeze lemon juice over the dish before serving.
