  • Combine warm milk and sugar in a small bowl. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 5-10 minutes until fluffy.
  • In a large bowl, mix all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Cook the ground sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain and let cool.
  • Punch down the risen dough and divide into 12 pieces. Roll each into a ball, flatten slightly, and add sausage and cheese in the center.
  • Enclose the filling by pinching the dough edges together, then shape into flowers.
  • Place shaped buns on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes until puffy.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush tops of buns with whisked egg and optionally sprinkle seeds.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
