Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples.
Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground cardamom in a bowl.
In a separate bowl, whisk melted butter and granulated sugar together. Add eggs, vanilla extract, and yogurt, and stir until smooth.
Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
Spread half of the batter in the prepared baking pan and arrange half of the apple slices on top.
Dollop remaining batter over the apples and top with the rest of the apple slices.
Mix granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for the topping and sprinkle over the apples.
Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool for 10–15 minutes before slicing and serve warm or at room temperature.
