Step-by-Step Instructions for Savory Hand Pies

  • In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat, then add ground beef. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart. Stir in onions, garlic, carrots, celery, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook until vegetables soften, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Once vegetables are tender, add cubed potatoes and beef broth. Simmer for about 10 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). On a floured surface, roll out puff pastry and cut into squares. Spoon filling into the center of each square. Fold over the pastry and seal the edges.
  • Transfer hand pies to a lined baking sheet. Brush tops with egg wash. Prick tops with a fork to allow steam to escape. Bake for 24-26 minutes until golden brown and flaky.
  • Once baked, remove from oven and cool on a wire rack for about 5 minutes. Serve warm with dipping sauces or enjoy solo.
