  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  • In a large bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually mix in the dry ingredient mixture until just combined.
  • Gently fold in caramel chips and chocolate chips if using.
  • Drop rounded portions of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  • Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top of the cookie dough before baking.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are golden brown and centers are soft.
  • Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
