  • Sift in 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder and 2 tablespoons of sugar into the warm milk. Whisk until fully dissolved.
  • Add 4 ounces of chopped bittersweet chocolate to the mixture. Whisk until the chocolate melts and blends smooth.
  • In a small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water until smooth.
  • Gradually whisk the cornstarch slurry into the hot chocolate, stirring continuously for 2–3 minutes until thickened.
  • Remove from heat and stir in ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
  • Pour hot chocolate into mugs, top with whipped cream, and garnish with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder.
