Instructions

Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Homemade Stuffing

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously butter a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  • Melt ¾ cup of butter in a skillet over medium heat and sauté diced onions and celery for 20-30 minutes until soft.
  • Remove from heat and stir in salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, marjoram, sage, and parsley. Allow to cool slightly.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs and then add chicken broth until smooth.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine stale bread cubes with the buttery vegetable mixture. Gently stir to combine.
  • Add the egg and broth mixture to the bread and veggie blend and toss until evenly coated.
  • Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and dot with remaining 2 tablespoons of butter.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes.
  • For extra crispiness, broil for 1-2 minutes, keeping a close watch.

Notes

Use stale bread for better absorption of flavors; let the stuffing rest for 5-10 minutes after baking before serving for improved texture.
