Step-by-Step Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the dough ingredients and mix until a soft, sticky dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for at least 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Cover the kneaded dough with a cloth and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
  • Gently punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions.
  • Coat each portion with vegetable oil and roll into smooth balls.
  • Let the dough balls rest for another 10 minutes.
  • Flatten each dough ball into a thin, translucent square shape.
  • Brush with melted butter and sprinkle semolina before folding the sides towards the center.
  • Continue this process with remaining dough balls, stacking them separately.
  • Preheat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat and lightly oil the surface.
  • Cook each folded Msemen for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown.
