Ingredients

Taco Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 chopped chipotle pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro

Blackening Seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper adjust to preference
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Tacos

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 4 fillets fish white fish like tilapia or cod
  • 8 tortillas soft corn or flour
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro
  • ½ cup crumbled Cotija cheese
  • 4 wedges lime

Instructions

Taco Sauce Preparation

  • In a food processor or blender, combine lime juice, sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic salt, chipotle pepper, and chopped cilantro. Blend until smooth and creamy. Refrigerate until ready.

Blackening Seasoning Preparation

  • In a medium bowl, mix garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, cayenne pepper, thyme, basil, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well combined.

Fish Coating

  • Pour melted butter into a shallow bowl. Dip fish fillets into the butter, then sprinkle blackening seasoning generously over both sides.

Fish Cooking

  • Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat with olive oil. Add seasoned fish fillets and sauté for 2 minutes per side until cooked through. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.

Tortilla Warming

  • Warm tortillas in a skillet or microwave until soft and pliable.

Taco Assembly

  • Place shredded cabbage on each tortilla, add blackened fish, top with cilantro and Cotija cheese, then drizzle with taco sauce.

Serving

  • Serve the tacos on a platter with lime wedges on the side.
