Ingredients

For the Spice Blend

  • 2 tablespoons Kashmiri chili
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala

For the Chicken

  • 8 ounces boneless chicken cut into chunks

For the Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for sautéing
  • 1 cup yogurt room temperature
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt

For Garnish

  • 1-2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander

Instructions

Cooking Steps

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds and sauté for about 30 seconds.
  • Stir in 2 tablespoons of Kashmiri chili powder, 1 teaspoon of coriander, and 1 teaspoon of turmeric. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add 8 ounces of boneless chicken, cut into chunks, and sear for about 5-7 minutes until lightly browned.
  • Reduce heat to low and mix in 1 cup of yogurt, stirring continuously for 3-4 minutes.
  • Pour in 1 cup of water and sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of salt. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  • Cover the pot and cook for approximately 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Check chicken for tenderness, then sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of garam masala and stir well.
  • Garnish with 1-2 tablespoons of chopped fresh coriander and serve warm.
