Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

For the Herb Infusion

  • ½ cup fresh parsley
  • ¼ cup fresh basil
  • ¼ cup fresh lemon juice
  • ½ cup buttermilk or substitute with milk and vinegar

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Step 1: Press the false, tofu, or tempeh to eliminate excess moisture; cut into 1-inch cubes.
  • Step 2: Whisk together flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika.
  • Step 3: Prepare the egg wash by whisking the eggs; mix breadcrumbs with oregano and thyme in another bowl.
  • Step 4: Dip each piece of false into seasoned flour, then egg wash, then breadcrumbs. Arrange ready for frying.
  • Step 5: Heat oil in a skillet to 350°F (175°C) for frying.
  • Step 6: Fry breaded false in batches for about 3–4 minutes on each side until golden and crispy.
  • Step 7: Combine parsley, basil, and lemon juice for the herb infusion.
  • Step 8: Serve the fried false hot with the herb infusion drizzled on top.

Notes

Allow fried false to rest on paper towels for crispiness and avoid leaving at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
