Step-by-Step Instructions for Omurice

  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter until bubbly. Add the diced onion and sauté for 3–4 minutes until translucent and fragrant.
  • Incorporate the diced chicken or shrimp, cooking for another 5–6 minutes until browned and cooked through.
  • Stir in the diced carrot and cook for 2 minutes. Then, add frozen peas and cook for another 1–2 minutes.
  • Mix the cooked rice into the skillet, along with ketchup and soy sauce. Season with salt and pepper; stir and cook for about 3–4 minutes.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk, adding a pinch of salt until smooth and frothy.
  • In another skillet, melt the remaining tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Pour in the egg mixture and let cook for about 1 minute until edges begin to set.
  • Spoon the rice mixture onto one half of the cooked omelet. Fold the other half over the top and cook for another minute to set the eggs.
  • Gently slide the Omurice onto a plate. Drizzle additional ketchup on top for a classic touch.

Notes
